| Aunt Bert s White Cake

"This is a very old recipe that I got from my deceased friend Holli s Aunt Bert. Everyone will love it." INGREDIENTS: | 2 cups white sugar 2 cups sifted all-purpose flour 3 egg yolks 1 egg 1/2 cup buttermilk 1 teaspoon vanilla extract | 1/2 teaspoon salt 1 teaspoon baking powder 1 teaspoon baking soda 1/2 cup shortening 1 cup boiling water | DIRECTIONS: | 1. | Mix together the buttermilk with the baking soda. Set aside. Cream shortening, sugar, eggs and vanilla. Beat well. | | 2. | Add buttermilk and baking soda mixture. | | 3. | Sift dry ingredients, and add to creamed mixture. | | 4. | Add boiling water, and mix well. | | 5. | Pour into a greased and floured 9 x 13 inch pan. Bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for approximately 35 minutes, or until toothpick comes out clean. | | 6. | Let cool. I frost with cream cheese frosting. | |
